Mood board

The Books mood board (a collage-type of composition meant to help with exploration). A sample of The Books' music is found below.
I am well into the second week of workshops (I have ‘classes’ Wed-Fri). Today I had graphic design and am now getting ready for my photography class.
Today we turned in/presented our mood boards and had a crit of our first round logo sketches. Mood boards are a very new concept to me. Basically, it is a way to take those first steps of exploration in a design project. You take images, colors, messages, type, textures and what ever else that might communicate the message of a design project, and you make a loose composition/collage of those elements.
A goal of this mood board is that it somehow captures the essence of The Books’ music. Check out the sample » If Not Now, Whenever and you can buy/listen-to the album (it’s super good) by clicking here.

This idea of tubes and books really drove home the concept. It worked out wonderfully that the two images were roughly the same shape and size.
The logo exploration is looking good too. I think I am going to be using the concepts that were born of the mood board to finish the logo and the final album artwork design.

These are the two concepts that I've narrowed it down to. We'll see which one I develop (I've already made up my mind, but I won't spill the beans).
